The Brightstar Corporation was founded in 2005 when a small team of highly experienced professionals joined forces to pursue a variety of real estate development opportunities. John Blackburn and James Buckler are the principals of the firm, and they have put together a senior management team of seasoned experts in project development, finance, design, construction and marketing.

The Brightstar management team brings seasoned experience in the acquisition, development and sale of residential, commercial, recreational and industrial real estate. This team of experts gives Brightstar the capability to take projects from the concept stage to full completion, working with a host of specialized consultants and firms that ensure the delivery of high quality real estate developments.

Brightstar is committed to developing projects that will deliver sustainable environmental solutions, utilizing an ever-increasing capacity for providing renewable and energy efficient solutions in all aspects of project development.

Projects will be developed using Sustainable Building practices with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of all new developments. Brightstar is committed to the development and utilization of technologies related to the environmental and recycling industries.

The Brightstar management team brings a combined 140+ years of experience in the acquisition, development and sale of residential, commercial, recreational and industrial real estate. Lawson Gay and his family have been in the General Contracting construction business in Durham Region since 1888. He is currently the 5th generation to work in the company Gay Company Limited. Following his graduation from Wilfred Laurier University in 1995 with an Honours Business Degree he returned home to work and grow his family business.

In Oshawa since the early 1900’s the company sold the lands where the GM Centre now resides to the City of Oshawa and relocated to its current location on Highway #2 Courtrice (in a building that was Lawson Gay’s grandfather’s house). There are very few areas in Oshawa, Whitby and especially Clarington that have not had a part of it built by Gay Company Limited.

Lawson Gay has also formed a housing company called HL Gay Family Homes (that has built over 300 tract homes and 20 Custom Homes) and started numerous land development companies that specialize in Commercial Development as well as housing subdivisions.

Lawson was the President of the Durham Construction Association from 2000-2002, was on the construction steering committee for the fundraising for the Cancer Centre at Lakeridge Oshawa, sits on the Friends of UOIT Fundraising Committee.

Lawson is a member of Tarion (ONHWP) in good standing, a member of the Durham Region Home Builders Association in good standing, is a member of the Oshawa/Durham Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Clarington Board.
